Digital X-Rays

While we do believe that pediatric dentists have superpowers, we don’t have the power of x-ray vision (sadly)! There are many parts of a tooth and its supporting structures that are hidden by close contacts or tissues, so X-rays are an important tool that help us paint an accurate picture of your child’s oral health. This allows us to catch potential issues early—before they can cause trouble—and keep little smiles healthy. Of course, we always follow the ALARA principle (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) to minimize radiation exposure. And we understand that parents may have questions or concerns—please reach out anytime! Our goal is for parents to feel just as comfortable and confident in our care.

Our X-Ray Schedule

We carefully tailor X-rays to your child’s age and dental needs to keep exposure low while ensuring we catch any potential issues early:

Ages 0–2: Usually, no X-rays are needed unless a specific problem arises.

Age 3: We begin with periapical (PA) x-rays of the upper and lower front teeth to monitor early development.

Age 4: We start bitewing x-rays and continue with annual bitewings to check for cavities between teeth.

Ages 11+: We take anterior PA x-rays and posterior bitewings as needed to track growth, alignment, and overall dental health.

This schedule helps us provide the most effective, preventive care while keeping your little one safe and comfortable.

Digital X-Rays & Advanced Imaging

We also use Overjet AI software, which helps us analyze x-rays with cutting-edge precision. This technology highlights areas that may need extra attention, making our diagnoses even more accurate while supporting our focus on prevention.

CBCT & Panoramic Imaging

Sometimes a regular x-ray isn’t enough to see the whole picture. That’s why we use CBCT and panoramic (pano) imaging, which together give us both a detailed 3D view and a full overview of your child’s teeth, jaws, and airway. This combination allows us to assess growth, development, and alignment more accurately—especially helpful for orthodontic planning or complex cases.
